Book Review: At the Corner of East and Now
Sep 27th, 2006 by michelle
I finally finished reading “At the Corner of East and Now” by Frederica Mathewes-Green. This book seems to be a staple in the Orthodox woman’s journey of faith. Mathewes-Green walks the reader through each part of the Orthodox Sunday (Divine) liturgy while encasing it in stories and anecdotes. She is a convert who uses her writings to simplify the teachings of the Orthodox church so that a seeker may better understand its components. This book gives a non-intimitating look into the daily life of an Orthodox christian, a woman who has flaws and uses those flaws to entice the reader to continue on in her search for Truth. This book made me laugh at times and even brought me close to tears with stories of those who were persecuted for their faith. This book is a must read for anyone considering the Orthodox church or for those who would like to better understand its basic doctrines and practices. I highly recommend this book.
