1st Catechism Class
Oct 5th, 2006 by michelle
On Wednesday night we met with our catechism class for the first time. It was more of a getting-to-know-you-and-your-sponsors night, but it was nice to actually feel like we are getting started. We were accepted as catecumen in July and have been ready to start for a while now.
We didn’t really discuss much other than expectations. Our priest, however, made a great analogy comparing catechism to the instructions that a flight attendant gives you on an airplane regarding the airmasks. He said that you must first equip yourselves and then your children. Very wise words.
I am looking forward to a formal training in all things Orthodox, since, up to this point, I have learned only through attending the church for nearly two years, reading books/websites and talking with others. It will be nice to actually hear from someone, our priest, who is trained.
Look for more catechism posts in the coming weeks and months.

Catechism is great; it gets really good when you start learning about really basic stuff like the Trinity and creation, stuff I wasn’t taught much about growing up.
Michelle, that is interesting that your sponsor goes to Catechism class as well. I guess this means you had to have one picked out prior to becoming a Catechumen? Very interesting.
Enjoy - I can’t wait to hear more about your classes.

Oooh, I like your priest’s words.
Congratulations and enjoy
