Choosing My Patron Saint
Mar 21st, 2007 by michelle
I’ve written about Saint Melania the Younger several times on this blog (here and here), but now I have decided that she will be my patron saint. I am really excited because I feel like she has a lot to teach me about humility and willingness to give up her riches to serve others.
One reason that I connected with Melania was that she and I both had premature sons; although, her’s did not live and mine is a happy almost seventeen month old. She lived a life of self-sacrifice and converted many people who were misled by Nestorius. Melania encourages me to be more open with my faith, rather than keeping it a secret from others, which has been an issue for me my entire life.
I pray that I may learn to emulate her faith in my own life on a daily basis.

Oh how lovely. The first time I heard about her was here on your blog.
I can’t remember, do you have a Chrismation date yet?

I’m happy for you that you decided for sure on Saint Melania. That’s a really pretty name and also her story seems to resonate with you. I can’t believe how soon your chrismations are coming up!
Congratulations - both on the upcoming Chrismation, and the Patronage of such a wonderful saint!
