Martyrs of Andrianopolis
Oct 22nd, 2007 by michelle
The martyrs Alexander the Bishop, Heraclius the Soldier, Anna, Theodota, Elizabeth, and Glyceria were killed at Adrianopolis during the third century for their
confession of Christ. This was a time when Christianity spread among the pagans. Despite the persecutions against the Christians, Bishop Alexander fearlessly converted and baptized many pagans into the holy saving faith.
The governor of the region ordered his soldiers to use torture to force Bishop Alexander to deny Christ. The saint patiently endured terrible tortures. Struck by this, the soldier Heraclius believed in Christ, for Whom the saint suffered. And after him, the Women Martyrs Anna, Elizabeth, Theodota and Glyceria confessed themselves to be Christians.

thanks for sharing about these martyrs. that’s amazing to me every time I hear some of the physical tortures people have suffered for Christ.
What a great site, I will come back when I have some real time to myself. I had a website on women saints a couple of years ago but I couldn’t keep it up. I have a blog about the Orthodox saints of Britain and Ireland right now - http://anglo-orthodox-saints.blogspot.com and I’ll add this site to the links - it’s the first other blog I’ve found about saints. I’m all excited
