Not Juice…

This morning I was reading the Gospel of John when to my two year old son, David, walked up to me, pointed and said, “Mommy reading book.” (He’s still learning how to make sentences.) I told him that I was reading the Bible, to which he replied with awe, “Ohh, Bible.” So asked if he wanted to join me. He sat down next to me and listened contentedly for about two chapters while running his toy truck up and down my arm.
As I began to read chapter 2, verse 18: “So the Jews answered…” David interrupted me, held out his sippy cup and said, “No juice, Mommy, milk!” Well, at least he was listening, even if he didn’t quite understand …

I love it! It’s crazy how they can be listening though you wouldn’t have thought it.
During Church, what approach do you take? Let him color or move around (and hope he’s listening) vs. sit still and quietly listen? We’ve experimented with lots of things and still can’t figure it out.
Nice story. Reminds me of my son when he was about 3. After one Sunday service I queried him to see if he was understanding or even listening to anything. Do you know who Jesus is? “Yes, Papa, I love Jesus!”, he replies. This is good stuff, I press onward. Tell me who Jesus is, my son. “Jesus! I love Jesus”, he says, “You put it on bread.”
Whaaa? Oh good grief, its CHEESES he is talking about! Oh well.
LOL. “Out of the mouthes of babes…” These are such precious moments aren’t they??
